“The high level of creativity present across all platforms and all genres in the radio industry today, prompts us here at New York Festivals to once again expand the spotlight to include new areas of excellence,” said Rose Anderson, Executive Director, NYF Radio Program & Promotion Awards.

New York Festivals Radio Program & Promotion Awards Executive Director Rose Anderson announced several updates. There are now categories for Program Open, Best Regularly Scheduled Sports Program, Best Sports Special, Sports & Recreation, Environment & Ecology, and Best Student Documentary. On Air Station Contests are now eligible in the Special Event category. The Podcast group includes 2 new categories: Sports & Recreation and Culture & The Arts.

Denise Donlon, NYF Radio Awards Advisory Board and former General Manager for CBC English Radio had this to say about the competition, “The New York Radio Awards Festival not only celebrates enterprise and investigative journalism, but also honors the creative craft of radio production. In a freewheeling world where information is not only ubiquitous, but often sloppy and ill-informed, an elegant recognition of thoughtful, quality content is more important than ever.”

New York Festivals continually monitors trends in worldwide programming in the broadcast industry and introduces new categories designed to showcase those emerging industry trends. Current category groups include: News Programs, News Reports/Features, Satellite Radio, Information/Documentary, Entertainment, Talk Programs, On-Air Talent, Craft & Technique, Programming Format, Morning Drive Programming, Promotion Spots, IDs, Audio Podcasts, and Student categories.

“The beauty of the Radio Awards Competition is that the judges truly listen to the entries in their own time, devoting the care and attention that the programs merit. The New York Festivals give you the chance to share that magic with the world and be recognized for your creative abilities.” - John MacCalman, NYF Radio Awards Advisory Board, Broadcast Producer/Consultant, Scotland.

Since 1990, the NYF’s Radio Awards and the United Nations Department of Public Information offer the opportunity for entrants to be awarded the United Nations Department of Public Information Award.  This award honors radio broadcasting that best exemplifies the ideals and goals of the United Nations.
