New York Festivals Radio Awards Announces 2024 Shortlist

New York, NY – March 20, 2024: The New York Festivals® (NYF) 2024 Radio Awards announced this year’s Storytellers Gala Shortlist.                                 

Mesmerizing audio entries created by storytellers from around the world were judged online by NYF’s Radio Awards Grand Jury to determine the 2024 Radio Awards Shortlist. Shortlisted entries include audiobooks, podcasts, dramas, documentaries, breaking news coverage, entertainment, and music specials from radio stations, networks, prominent production companies and independent producers.

Entertainment engaged audiences of every generation. Shortlisted entries include Hamlet Noir (Almost Tangible), Q with Tom Power: Interview with Mick Jagger (CBC), Entre Carole et Lewis (Between Carole and Lewis) (Radio-Canada), Gold Minds with Kevin Hart (SiriusXM), The Thief at St Nicholas Academy (Swedish Radio), Eclectica - Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon - 50th Anniversary Special (Eclectica - Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon - 50th Anniversary Special), Northern Soul All Nighter (TBI Media Ltd.), In Concert: Hall of Fame, Eleanor Collins (CBC), Crazy Kiwi Christmas Kids Show - Best Children/Young Adult Program (CBA), The Skewer (Unusual Productions), Enduring Love (Flare Path Productions), and Pure Energy (Aramco media production division).

Documentaries captivated listeners with compelling stories and unique points of view. Shortlisted entries include The Beatles' Legacy: Red and Blue (Howlett Media Productions Ltd.), Million Dollar Lover (British Broadcasting House), Jim Kerr on Jim Morrison (Lonesome Pine Productions), Tito Puente - Mambo Man (Magnum Opus Broadcasting), Half-Caste Legends (ABC Radio National), A Charlestonian Rhapsody: the Story of Edmund T Jenkins (Rhubarb Rhubarb), Atlantic Voice/To The Moon (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), Black Sheep (Radio New Zealand), Haiti, a vanishing country (Radio France), Crossing the Cuillin Mountains (BBC Scotland Productions), Deep Listening: Whale Culture, Interspecies Communication, and Knowing Your Place (Bioneers).

Podcasts captivated listeners with entries in multiple categories including Drama, Culture, Sports, Entertainment, Music, Technology, News, Business, and Social Justice. The National Press Club Award will go to the highest scoring entry in these news program categories: 

Coverage Of Breaking News Story, Coverage Of Ongoing News Story, Nonfiction Series, Investigative Journalism podcast, and News Podcast. The winner will be announced during the New York Festivals 2024 Storytellers Gala virtual event on April 16th.

The New York Festivals Radio Awards 66-year legacy provides a showcase to celebrate world-class storytellers from around the globe. Since 1957 the competition has celebrated innovation and excellence in broadcast audio content across all genres and platforms keeping pace with industry developments and global trends.

All Entries in the 2024 competition were screened online by NYF’s Radio Awards international Grand Jury of 200+ producers, directors, writers, and other creative media professionals from around the globe and judged on the following set of criteria: production values, creativity, content presentation, direction, writing, achievement of purpose and audience suitability. 

Award-winning entries will be announced during the New York Festivals 2024 Storytellers Gala virtual event on April 16th 6PM EDT. The virtual event will include featured global audio and video highlights, award winners’ acceptance speeches from around the world, and up-close and personal spotlights featuring some of radio and television’s most respected storytellers. All winners will be showcased on the Radio Awards winners gallery.
