Götz Naleppa, Drama Director & Sound Artist of Naleppa Audio Productions, Germany. He is one of the most well-known and experienced directors of radio plays in Germany. He is a member of the Radio Advisory Board.
In the 90’s he constructed the radio play departments of Germany Radio (Cologne / Berlin) as a radio play director, and from 1997 to 2008 Mr. Naleppa acted as director and dramaturg for Germany Kultur (responsible editor for sound art). Since January 2009 he has concentrated his talents on projects serving as a freelance director (radio drama, media arts), translator, and composer in digital sound art.
The Gold trophy for “ZENScapes – City, Land, River” for Sound Art is Gotz Naleppa’s fourth. And in this Edition of Content POV, he shares more about the backstory of this art form.
“It’s all about listening in our business: information, enjoyment or critic, entertainment, and pleasure for the ears, brains, and hearts of our listeners. But what can Sound Art contribute with our sound-sculptures, sound-paintings, sound-films, and soundscapes? Perhaps it is a way of ‘deeper listening’ down to the bottom of our conscience by the means of our finest instruments and tools, our ears. Like all art, it attempts the impossible: to freeze time and to extend the moment to eternity.
In my contribution to the 2020-competition “ZENScapes | city, land, river“ I borrowed ideas from ancient Chinese brush painting and connected them with thoughts of the ZEN-philosophy. Radio, the intimate medium, is the ideal carrier for this work - because I meet every listener individually, even if there are thousands of them. I only can be grateful to the Grand Jury members that they had the open ears to appreciate my attempt. Thank you Jury, thank you, New York Festival, thank you, all open ears and minds!”
